my child has blood in stool?

the blood is bright red.. the doctor said it may be hemorrhoids..
he prescribed a suppository and told me that if this does not stop the bleeding. then he would refer to a gastroenterologist
the bleeding continued every time he had a bowel for 3-4 days..
and i inserted the suppository every night for those days..
then on the 4-5 day it stopped.. so i stopped the medicine.
now he still gets the blood every week or so.. should i be concerned??
i didn’t know a 10 year old can get hemorrhoids? he weighs 135lbs.. he also has extreme gas!
